On Wednesday, Hyundai Motor America, the world's fifth largest automobile producer launched a program with Carbonfund.org to offset the first year's emissions of all 2009 Hyundai Genesis cars sold. We here at Carbonfund.org are so proud to be a part of this unique and trendsetting project that is helping to reforest and conserve over 3,000 acres of forest in Brazil. This project is special not just because it will offset over 93,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, but also because of the co-benefits of the project. The project is one of few in the world designed to meet the Climate, Community and Biodiversity Alliance (CCBA) standards, a certification standard that ensures that the projects not only sequester carbon, but also help local communities and enhance biodiversity. Also, as part of Hyundai's project, they are offering three $35,000 grants to developers of similar projects that will meet the CCBA standards. So out of this one Hyundai sponsored project, there could be three more that develop because of it. Now that is leadership!
Carbonfund.org is proud to partner with Hyundai on this project that will so clearly impact the climate and the Brazilian ecosystem. To read more, please see http://hyundai.carbonfund.org.

Now, I just hope this becomes a measurable success within a reasonable amount of time. Some gestures such as that have good intentions, but lack in the execution and outcome.
Let's hope the best.

As a client of CarbonFund.org, I was stunned in the best sense of the word by this announcement. It is a very significant step, as much for its symbolism than the tons of carbon it will sequester. Together with the creation of the VW Forest in the southern United States, the good people at CarbonFund.org are putting their rhetoric to work. What tree hugger could ask more?
