For a vacation this summer, Carbonfund.org's Michael Stewart and his wife decided that rather than fly somewhere and wantonly spew carbon into the atmosphere, they would drive up the West Coast--which still emits carbon, but relatively less (and of course they offset their journey). Along their way to the Pacific Northwest and back, they visited several Carbonfund.org partners, swapping stories and making connections among some of our many partners in the climate change movement.
Michael first visited the tiny seaside village of Pacific City, OR, 1.5 hours from Portland and home to Basket Case Wines, who were just about to open their first tasting room in town. Michael had this to say: "The tasting room was super eco-decked-out and the tasting bar was made from a salvaged bowling alley! Founders Sean & Chenin (pictured) who are super cool gave me some of the CarbonFree wine to taste for our leg of the trip up to the mountains."
Michael's next stop was Yakima in Portland, OR, where he got new gear for his CarbonFree Yakima Racks (pictured). They hooked him up with the latest surfboard style straps to accommodate my kayak and surfboard.
On the way home, Michael passed through Mt Shasta, CA to kayak the pristine McCloud River, which is the birth place of Rainbow Trout and of Carbonfund.org partner Terra Mai. Terra Mai produces high end wood products out of salvaged wood from around the world (pictured). They have just moved into their new green offices in Mt. Shasta. Their PNW salesman Ray Pettengell was kind enough to be a river guide for Michael's kayak run, and then he hosted a big BBQ at his place.
Michael is leaving Carbonfund.org to pursue other endeavors. Best wishes to him from all of us.
